Fioretti Calls on Mayor Johnson to Reverse ShotSpotter Decision

Republican State’s Attorney candidate Bob Fioretti today called on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to reverse his disastrous decision to rid the city of the crime-fighting tool Shotspotter.”

“Like any technology, Shotspotter is not perfect,” Fioretti said. “But why any elected official who takes an oath to keep people safe would ditch a tool that speeds up police response to violent crime is beyond comprehension.”

Fioretti, a former two-term Chicago Alderman agreed with the Sun Times, who called the Mayor’s leadership “timid.” “Timidity is the last quality we need when trying to keep our families and communities safe,” Fioretti said.

A former Special Assistant State’s Attorney and Special Assistant Attorney General, Fioretti has experience keeping people safe. During his time on the City Council, he is widely credited with creating the “Safe Passage” program to help Chicago’s school children navigate their way to and from school safely. “Public safety is not about ideology,” Fioretti said. “It’s about being bold, not timid, thinking outside the box and going the extra mile to keep people safe.”

The long-time civil rights lawyer said the only people to benefit from the Mayor following the advice of his anti-police followers are the perpetrators of violence. “The criminals are cheering today, and at the same time they are laughing at us,” Fioretti said. “With Kim Foxx as State’s Attorney and Brandon Johnson as Mayor, there has never been a better time to be a violent criminal in Chicago and Cook County.”

Fioretti also noted that Mayor Johnson is keeping the crime fighting tool through the Democratic National Convention. “If Shotspotter is good enough to keep the big wigs of the Democratic Party safe, then it’s good enough to keep families all over Chicago safe. Hopefully with the common sense blowback from the law enforcement community the Mayor will come to his senses,” Fioretti said.
